Sr. High District Honor Choir

Eligibility

Students in grades 9 – 12 whose directors are currently members of LMEA are eligible to audition. A student auditioning for the Sr. High District Honor Choir must be a member of their school’s vocal music program.

This Year’s Clinician

This year’s Sr. High Honor Choir clinician is Greg Oden, director at West Monroe High School and Music Coordinator for Ouachita Parish Schools.

The tracks can be played or downloaded. All music should be learned before District Honor Choir.

This year’s selections include:

Audition Date, Fee, and Location 

There is a single audition for Sr. High District Honor Choir and All-State 1st round. Students must indicate at that audition whether they are auditioning for both ensembles or just one ensemble.

Audition Date: September 16, 2017
Location: Southeastern La. University; registration is in choir room
Time: Each school’s audition times will be assigned after the registration deadline.
Fee: • $10.00 per entry
Students – Fees should be paid to the student’s school. Check with director for school deadline.
Directors – A single school check, payable to L.M.E.A. District IX Vocal Account, must be mailed to Paula Vickers, Mandeville Middle, 2525 Soult St., Mandeville, LA 70448.
• Include a hard copy of the registration form.
Registration Form: Directors must fill out and submit the registration form online by the deadline to assure that your students are scheduled.
Student Information Release Forms: Directors must turn in an “LMEA Student Information Release Form” for each student auditioning before students will be allowed to audition. Send these forms to the chairperson.
Registration Deadline: • Registration form must be filled out and submitted online and check must be postmarked by August 25, 2017.
• Be aware that schools will be assessed a $50.00 late fee if this deadline is not met.
• Students who are registered late will be assigned whatever times are still available.
• All late entries must be received at least 5 days prior to an event.

Audition Requirements

Students auditioning for Sr. High District Honor Choir are required to sing the appropriate voice part of the choral selection listed below with the accompaniment CD and sight-read. (This is both the All-State and the District Honor Choir audition selection.)

     Prepared Choral Selection

2017 – “Heilig” (Holy) by Mendelssohn (for double choir), Walton Music Corp. #W2163. This is to be sung in German. Learning tracks and audition tracks can be found on the LMEA website.

2018 – “O Vos Omnes” by Pablo Casals, Tetra Music #TC128. This is to be sung in Latin.

2019 – “Richte Mich, Gott” by Mendelssohn, arr. Jerry Wesley Harris (SSAATTBB), Warner Bros. #LG70179. This is to be sung in German.

2020 – “Shenandoah” arr. by Steven Sametz (SSAATTBB), Oxford University Press #978-0-19-386633-1. Learning tracks and audition tracks can be found on the LMEA website.

2021 – “Crucifixus” by Lotti (SSAATTBB), Walton Music Corp., OCT6006. Also, CPDL version #00214 (free download) may also be used in place of the Walton version. This is to be sung in Latin.

Audition Results

Audition results will be posted as soon as possible – usually the night of auditions. Select “Audition Results” in the menu.

Fees and Participation Forms for students making District Honor Choir

Fee: $30 per participant
Teachers’ Deadline: Postmarked by September 22, 2017 (fees and student participation forms)
Students: Participation Forms must be filled out, signed & turned in to teacher.
Fees should be paid to student’s school.
• Check with your director for your school’s deadline.
Teachers: A single school check, payable to L.M.E.A. District IX Vocal Account, must be mailed with the student participation forms to Paula Vickers, Mandeville Middle, 2525 Soult St., Mandeville, LA 70448 by the deadline.
Late Fees: • Payments postmarked after September 22, 2017 will be accessed a $50 late fee.
• NO FEES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER November 3, 2017.
• Any student whose fees have not been received by the late deadline will be dropped from the roster.
Optional: T-shirts are optional and can be purchased through your director prior to honor choir.
CDs or DVDs of the concert performance are optional, but will be available for purchase.

Location: Fontainebleau High School
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 (Roll will be taken at 5:55)
Absences: Students must be present and on time for ALL rehearsals and the concert.
Tardies: If a student is late once, they will be warned. If any student is more than 15 minutes late, their circumstances will be reviewed and they are subject to immediate dismissal.
If that person is late a second time, they will be sent home.

Thursday, February 1, 2018 – Nathan Sumrall (Chairperson), Stephanie Robertson (Host)

Location: Ponchatoula High School
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 (Roll will be taken at 5:55)
Absences: Students must be present and on time for ALL rehearsals and the concert.

Friday, February 2, 2018

Location: Ponchatoula High School
Time: 9:00 – 12:30; 1:30 – 4:00
(Roll for all groups will be taken beginning 5 minutes before start time.)
LUNCH: On campus 12:30 – 1:30
Students may bring their lunch or purchase a lunch to be provided. Any school (or student) leaving a rehearsal early will not be allowed to participate on Saturday.
Absences: Students must be present and on time for ALL rehearsals and the concert.

Sr. High District Honor Choir – Dress Code for Rehearsals and Concerts

Rehearsal Dress:

Students who participate in District Honor Choir will follow their school dress code during rehearsals. No spaghetti straps, halter tops, sleeveless shirts, midriff-baring shirts, or skirts above the knee will be allowed.

Concert Dress – Sr. High:

All students should wear the concert attire for their school.

Women: If a school’s concert attire does not include floor-length dresses, women should plan to wear a floor-length, solid dark-colored skirt and blouse or dress. (Check with your director to make sure your attire is appropriate.)
Note: No spaghetti straps, halter tops, sleeveless shirts, or midriff-baring shirts.

Men: If a school’s attire does not include tux or suit jacket, men should wear a suit jacket with white shirt and tie, a plain solid vest with white shirt and tie, or a long sleeve white shirt and tie. (Check with your director to make sure your attire is appropriate.)

Dress Code Violations:

Students not complying with all dress code requirements will not be allowed to participate. Students missing a rehearsal due to dress code violations will not be allowed to perform.
