Elementary District Honor Choir

 


Please note that, although every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of information printed here, it is the student’s responsibility to check with his/her director for any changes in audition requirements or schedules.


 

Eligibility

Students in grades 5 and 6 whose directors are current members of LMEA are eligible to audition. A student auditioning for the District Honor Choir must be a member of their school’s vocal music program.

Audition Date, Fee, and Location

Audition Date: October 21, 2017
Location: Madisonville Jr. High School
Time: Individual times will be assigned after registration deadline.
Fee: • $10.00 per audition
• Students auditioning on more than one instrument must pay the fee for each instrument.
• Fees should be paid to the student’s school.
• A single school check, payable to L.M.E.A. District IX Vocal Account, must be mailed by the deadline to: Paula Vickers, Mandeville Middle School, 2525 Soult St., Mandeville, LA 70448. Include a hard copy of the registration form.
Registration Form: Directors must fill out and submit the registration form online by the deadline to assure that your students are scheduled.
Student Information Release Form: Directors must turn in an “LMEA Student Information Release Form” for each student auditioning before students will be allowed to audition. Send these forms to the chairperson.
Registration Deadline: • Registration form must be submitted and check must be postmarked by September 21, 2017.
• Be aware that schools will be assessed a $50.00 late fee if this deadline is not met.
• Students who are registered late will be assigned whatever times are still available.

Audition Requirements 

Auditions include a prepared selection and “America.”

Prepared Selection

Students will be required to sing the appropriate selection from the four-year cycle listed below with the official CD accompaniment. Learning CDs are available to directors ahead of time and include the audition track. The audition track will be provided at the time of the audition.

Students will also sing the melody of “America” (“My Country ‘Tis of Thee” not “America the Beautiful”) unaccompanied in his/her vocal range. They should choose their own starting pitch.

Audition Results

Audition results will be posted on this site as soon as possible – usually the night of auditions. Select “Audition Results” in the menu.

Fees and Forms for students selected to District Honor Choir

Fee: $30 per participant
Teachers’ Deadline: Postmarked by November 3, 2017 (fees and student participation forms)
Students: Participation Forms must be filled out, signed & turned in to teacher.
Fees should be paid to student’s school.
• Check with your director for your school’s deadline.
Teachers: A single school check, payable to L.M.E.A. District IX Vocal Account, must be mailed with the student participation forms to Paula Vickers, Mandeville Middle, 2525 Soult St., Mandeville, LA 70448 by the deadline.
Late Fees: • Payments postmarked after November 3, 2017 will be accessed a $50 late fee.
• NO FEES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER November 3, 2017.
• Any student whose fees have not been received by the late deadline will be dropped from the roster.
Optional: T-shirts are optional and can be purchased through your director prior to honor choir.
CDs or DVDs of the concert performance are optional, but will be available for purchase.

Location: Lake Harbor Middle School
Time: 6:00 – 8:00 (Roll will be taken at 5:55)
Absences: Students must be present and on time for ALL rehearsals and the concert.
Tardies: If a student is late once, they will be warned. If any student is more than 15 minutes late, their circumstances will be reviewed and they are subject to immediate dismissal.
If that person is late a second time, they will be sent home.

Friday, February 2, 2018

Location: First Baptist Church, Ponchatoula
Time: 9:00 – 12:00; 1:00 – 3:00
(Roll for all groups will be taken beginning 5 minutes before start time.)
LUNCH: On campus 12:00-1:00
Students may bring their lunch or purchase a lunch to be provided. Any school (or student) leaving a rehearsal early will not be allowed to participate on Saturday.
Absences: Students must be present and on time for ALL rehearsals and the concert.

Saturday, February 3, 2018 – Final Rehearsal and Concert

Location: First Baptist Church, Ponchatoula
Final Rehearsal: 9:00-11:00
Lunch with parents
Concert: Call Time: 1:00 pm
Concert: 2:00 pm

Dress Code for Rehearsals and Concert

Rehearsals

Students who participate in District Honor Choir will follow their school dress code during rehearsals. No spaghetti straps, halter tops, sleeveless shirts, midriff-baring shirts, or skirts outside of school regulations will be allowed.

Concert Dress

Long Khaki Pants, District Honor Choir T-Shirts, shoes that are closed in both the front and back, and socks.
Note: District Honor Choir T-Shirts will be given to elementary students on the day of the performance. There is no extra charge for elementary choir students’ t-shirts.

Dress Code Violations

Students not complying with all dress code requirements will not be allowed to participate. Students missing a rehearsal due to dress code violations will not be allowed to perform.
